Our Mission

More Stories.

More Conversations.

The Multicultural Mental Health Film Festival (MMHFF) is a initiative of the Mental Health Foundation Australia, the oldest mental health organisation established in 1930. The festival aims to amplify diverse voices, reduce stigma, and spark meaningful conversations about mental health through the universal language of film.

More Stories. More Conversations is more than a theme, it's our commitment to building a space where diverse narratives are seen, heard, and valued. Through film, we invite audiences to step into the shoes of others to feel, to reflect, and to connect.

Mental health journeys don’t follow a single script. They are layered, personal, and often shaped by identity, language, heritage, and community. That’s why we believe in amplifying voices that too often go unheard — voices from across cultures, generations, and geographies.

What we stand for?

Mental Health Awareness for All
We aim to raise awareness about mental health in a way that is culturally safe, inclusive, and accessible—because everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported.

Empowering Stories
We create a platform for filmmakers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds to share stories of resilience, struggle, identity, and hope. Art gives voice to experiences words alone can’t capture.

Celebrating Cultural Diversity
Rooted in Australia's multicultural landscape, our festival highlights global stories that reflect the richness and complexity of mental health across different cultures.

Conversations that Matter
We believe that real change begins with honest dialogue. Our festival creates space for connection, empathy, and open discussion through Q&As, panels, and community engagement.

Community, Connection & Collaboration
Organised by the
Mental Health Foundation Australia, the MMHFF is grounded in community values. We collaborate with mental health professionals, artists, educators, and cultural leaders to co-create a meaningful and inclusive experience.

Why It Matters?

Mental health challenges affect people from all walks of life but the way we experience and respond to those challenges is shaped by culture, language, family, faith, and identity. By showcasing these diverse stories and perspectives, the MMHFF not only uplifts real voices but it helps build a more compassionate and culturally responsive mental health dialogue for all.
