Mental Health First Aid

Workplace Training

Mental Health First Aid is a practical, skills-based education program that equips adults in the workplace with the skills and confidence needed to recognise, respond, and offer initial support to a co-worker or another adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

Topics covered include depression, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and behaviours. You will learn how and where to get help when a person is developing a mental illness, what help research has shown to be effective and how to provide first aid in crisis situations.

By improving mental health literacy and reducing stigma, Mental Health First Aid training also helps grow organisational and employee resilience as well as improving the outcomes and help seeking behaviours for those affected by mental health problems.

Providing Mental Health First Aid training helps staff and managers in the workplace to:

  1. Intervene early by recognising the warning signs of mental health problems
  2. Provide the skills needed to speak about the mental health
  3. Respond in crisis situations where someone may be at risk of harm
  4. Reduce stigma and increase support for people with mental health problems
