Medical Advisory Committee

The MHFA’s Medical Advisory Committee are a group of professionals who have demonstrated expertise in areas of medicine, psychology and public health. The Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) Medical Advisory Committee provides independent advice and recommendations to the MHFA, to guide the MHFA’s work in the mental health space. The committee notifies the MHFA of knowledge gaps and emerging issues in mental health for the MHFA to address in its current activities and future planning.


Professor Malcolm Hopwood

Psychiatrist

Malcolm is currently with the Ramsay Health Care Professor of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne. At Ramsay Clinic Albert Road he provides inpatient care within the Professorial Psychiatry Unit as well as outpatient consultations focused on second psychiatric opinions. In addition to his clinical roles, Malcolm has a long track record of involvement in psychiatric research, focused on mood and anxiety disorders, psychopharmacology and psychiatric aspects of acquired brain injury. He also leads the undergraduate and registrar training schemes at the Ramsay Clinic Albert Road. Malcolm was President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists from 2015 to 2017, President of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations from 2019 to 2022 and is now the Chair of the North East Metro Regional Mental Health Body in Victoria.


Dr Christopher Mogan

Psychologist

Dr Mogan is the Director of The Anxiety Clinic, a specialist Clinical Psychology practice that provides contemporary treatments for complex presentations of anxiety, especially social and panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and hoarding disorder. The Anxiety Clinic provides an Intensive Outpatient Program - XRP- that provides intensive and prolonged treatments that are evidence-based and effective. Emeritus Professor Bruce Tonge AO

Psychiatrist

Prior to his retirement in 2012 he was the Foundation Head, School of Psychology and Psychiatry and Head of the Discipline of Psychological Medicine at Monash University and also the Senior Clinical Advisor of the Mental Health Program of Monash Health at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, Australia. He has a distinguished record of clinical work, teaching and research in child psychiatry. He established the internationally recognised Monash University Centre for Developmental Psychiatry and Psychology. He continues to have clinical, research and teaching interests in the area of developmental psychiatry with a particular focus in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorders and behavioural and emotional disturbance in children and adolescents with intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental disorders, parent education and skills training public mental health interventions, and treatment outcome studies in childhood anxiety and depressive disorders.


Professor Peter Barlis

Interventional Cardiologist

Peter is an internationally-recognised Interventional Cardiologist with the Northern and St Vincent's Hospitals in Victoria and Professor of Medicine with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences, the University of Melbourne. After graduating from the University of Melbourne, he completed cardiology training at Austin Health followed by a Master of Public Health with Monash University. In 2006, he secured a fellowship and scholarship at the prestigious Royal Brompton Hospital, London and then completed his PhD at the Thoraxcentre, Erasmus University the Netherlands, on the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in cardiology. OCT harnesses the properties of infrared light to look inside blood vessels in ultra-high resolution. Peter has since overseen OCT's uptake across the region with over sixty centers in Australia and New Zealand benefiting from his foresight. He is internationally renowned for his interventional and imaging academic output, and early development programs for novel therapies in cardiovascular disease. He has maintained connections all over the globe and continues to attract industry support for his research. He runs an active research group in biomedical engineering focused on coronary imaging and computational modeling with an interest in the development of innovative cardiovascular technologies.


Dr Alberto Veloso

Psychiatrist

Alberto is a specialist Child Psychiatrist and General Paediatrician, from Melbourne, Australia. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College os Psychiatrist, and the Royal Australian College of Physicians. He is passionate about Child and Family Mental Health with a particular focus on understanding and assisting the emotional development of children and adolescents. His clinical focus is assessing and treating mental health problems by integrating our understandings about brain development, the impact of relationships on emotional maturity and evidence-based biological and psychological treatments. Alberto provides integrated and holistic mental health care. He has specialist training in the assessment of mental health disorder including Mood Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis, Substance Abuse Disorders, PTSD, Eating Disorders, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is skilled in the biological and psychological treatment of mental health disorders which may include prescribing medications or engaging in individual and/or family therapy.

Dr Raj Khillan is a Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in: Neonatology Tongue Tie & Lip Tie snipping; Unsettled Babies; Behavioural and Sleep issues; Autism, Aspergers Syndrome and ADHD assessments and treatment; Growth & development issues; Continence problems-Constipation & Enuresis; Eczema and other allergies; Acute paediatrics; General Child and adolescent health.


Dr Preeti Khillan

Gynaecologist

Dr Preeti Khillan is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, certified colposcopist and advanced gynaecology laparoscopic surgeon. Dr Khillan is a senior consultant at Sunshine Hospital and director of Western Specialist Centre-Western Women' &am; Children' Specialist Centre. Dr Khillan is also a Director of MyOBG, which provide high quality pregnancy care at St Vincent's Private Hospital, Werribee.


Cr Richard Lim

Pharmacist

A successful pharmacy business owner, Richard Lim OAM, is known for his generosity and support towards many cultural groups and charities across Melbourne.  Founded in 1991, Lim's Pharmacy has won numerous awards for its achievements in business. In 2013, Lim's Pharmacy won the Quality Care Pharmacy Program's (QCPP) Community Engagement Award and was overall winner of QCPP Pharmacy of the Year for Australia. Richard is deeply passionate about giving back to the local community. He serves as Deputy Mayor of the City of Greater Dandenong and has been a local council member since 2020.  He is well connected within the Cambodian community in Melbourne. He established and developed a wide range of community groups such as the Cambodia Youth Association and Cambodian-Teochew Association. He was recognised for his charity work in 2014 when he received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his "service to the community through a range of social welfare organisations."  Richard's association with Monash Health started when he joined as an intern at Queen Victoria Hospital, now Monash Medical Centre. Later, he was hired as a Clinical Pharmacist before leaving Monash Health to start his own pharmacy business. Richard is a great supporter of Monash Health Foundation, both personally and through his pharmacy, organising fundraisers at community events. The proceeds are used to fund important initiatives throughout Monash Health, including Monash Children's Hospital and Victorian Heart Hospital. 


Abi Srinivasan

Pharmacist

Abi Srinivasan worked in the Pharmacy industry in Rural, Regional, and Metropolitan Victoria over the last decade. She has worked as a pharmacist both within community and hospital pharmacy. These are all experiences she has greatly developed her skill set from.She graduated with a Bachelors of Pharmacy with Honours from La Trobe University, and a Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice from Monash University. Abi completed an honours project in the role out of real time prescription monitoring in Victoria, following this project during her Internship year where she set up the review process for SafeScrip alerts at Slade Pharmacies. She currently works as an Injury Management Advisor, specialising in addiction management and pharmacy reviews, whilst continuing to work as a Clinical Pharmacist. Abi was the ex-Managing Director for Bollywood Dance School Australia until 2023. Besides this, Abi is a Multicultural Ambassador of Mental Health Foundation Australia since 2018, and an Attache since 2022, for which she has served as the Secretary of the Victorian Chapter and CoChair of the ACT Chapter. Abi is also trained in South Indian classical music, is an avid traveler and enjoys all things food related.


Sara Tatlow 

Clinical Psychologist

Sara Tatlow is a senior Clinical Psychologist who has worked as a clinician, supervisor and manager in the public and private mental health sector since 2005. Her experience includes working in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and Intensive Mobile Youth Outreach Service (IMYOS) and the Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (HOPE) programs. In addition to the provision of training and supervision, Sara has experience in co-design, project and outcome measurement coordination, the development and evaluation of service wide policies and clinical documentation, and mental health research. Sara is a Board Approved Supervisor through the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA) and an approved Supervisor and full member of the College of Clinical Psychologists within the Australian Psychological Society.


Dr Chidambaram Prakash 

Director of Mental Health and Authorised Psychiatrist, Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne

Dr. Chidambaram Prakash is a senior child and adolescent psychiatrist with 24 years' experience at consultant level. Prakash has worked across a variety of specialist mental health settings such regional child mental health, inpatient and outpatient child and adolescent mental health, intensive mobile youth outreach services, the specialist suicide intervention HOPE team and consultation-liaison psychiatry. His special interests include, emergency psychiatry and suicidology, teaching and capacity building, psychopharmacology and intellectual disability mental health. Prakash was the principal hospital psychiatrist for 12 years before taking on the role of the director mental health. Prakash speaks 4 Indian languages apart from English.


Dr Anjali Nambiar

General Practitioner

Anjali is currently completing her paediatric training through the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. Her special interests include childhood mood and behavioural disorders as well as developmental medicine. This stems from her prior work in adolescent psychiatry and socio-economically challenged areas of Melbourne. She has worked for the Wellness Hub since 2022, with a special focus on improving access to mental health care for children and adolescents.
