WHAT IS THE

NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL MENTAL HEALTH MONTH?

The Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) is proud to announce the 7th National Multicultural Mental Health Month which is set to run from 1st October to 31st October. This month-long campaign celebrates the rich cultural diversity of Australia while promoting mental health awareness and support within multicultural communities.

This campaign brings together individuals, workplaces, schools, services, and communities to recognise the importance of mental health as part of overall wellbeing and to create spaces where people feel supported, connected and empowered.

THEME: LIVED EXPERIENCE LEADS THE WAY

This year, our theme — “Lived Experience Leads the Way”  — honours the insight, empowerment, and resilience that lived experience brings to the mental health space. It reminds us that meaningful progress begins when we listen, learn, and foster environments where people feel safe and supported.

This theme is a call to all of us as individuals, organisations, communities to shift from awareness to action. It encourages us to see lived experience as a foundation for building understanding, trust, and long-term change in the way we care for each other and respond to mental health matters. By valuing and amplifying these perspectives, we take meaningful steps toward a space where everyone feels empowered and supported.

CAMPAIGN GOALS

Elevate Lived Experience: Create opportunities for individuals to share insight, contribute anonymously, or participate in events and programs that relates their perspectives.

Increase Public Awareness: Deliver clear, inclusive, strengths-based messages about mental health across sectors, ages, and cultural groups.

Promote Early Support and Connection: Encourage open conversations in workplaces, schools, and communities and improve accessibility of support services.

Foster Engagement Through Creativity: Use art, storytelling, film and digital platforms to promote mental wellbeing, empower conversations, and connect people through shared understanding.

Encourage Action: Provide meaningful ways for individuals, organisations and communities to get involved from donations to volunteering to local events.

WHY IT MATTERS?

Mental health affects us all whether through our own experiences or by supporting those we care about. What truly makes a difference is how we talk about it, who we make space to listen to, and how we choose to respond.

The National Multicultural Mental Health Month 2025 is about creating safe, respectful spaces where people feel heard, valued, and supported. It’s about learning from one another, taking meaningful action, and allowing lived experience leading the way forward because change begins when we lead with empathy.

GIVE THE

GIFT OF SUPPORT

Every day, people are navigating mental health challenges quietly often while working, caring for someone or simply trying to get through the week.

Many of them are doing this without the support they need, not because they don’t want help, but because they can’t afford it or don’t know where to turn.

Every contribution helps someone feel seen, heard, and supported. And when someone receives the care they need, they’re more likely to support others. That’s how we build resilient communities, one act of compassion at a time.
