About the program

This grants program is gifting the proceeds from the Mental Health Foundation Australia’s 2022 Gala Dinner Qld back to the Queensland community for women’s mental health support or services.

The Foundation aims to help reduce the rising rates of mental illness across the State and to further educate the community on preventative measures and professional areas of support.

Eligibility

Organisations must have an ABN (or be under the auspices of an organisation with an ABN), have your principal place of business in Queensland, hold Public Liability Insurance of $20 million, and commit to undertake the funded activity in Queensland.

Guidelines

  • The grant will be competitively assessed, and not all applications can be funded.
  • Multiple organisations are not permitted to apply for grant funding for the same activity.
  • Only one application per organisation is allowed.
  • Organisations can apply for a grant of $500, with a total of $3000 to be gifted via the program. MHFA acknowledge that this amount may not cover the full cost of your activity, and instead may help offset costs.
  • Successful applicants will take sole responsibility for the activity.
  • Funding entity: Mental Health Foundation Australia ABN 81 006 003 363

Criteria

The activity (event or project) will be designed to facilitate better mental health for Queensland women.

Applications will be assessed for their potential to help achieve the MHFA’s vision under its 6 pillars – To continuously advocate for better mental health, raise awareness, spread mental health education, increase mental health resilience, provide ongoing mental health support, and conduct mental health research.

The activity should take place between 1 August 2023 and 31 October 2023. Preference may be given to activities taking place in October 2023 (National Multicultural Mental Health Month).

Preference may be given to activities supporting the needs of those vulnerable to greater risk, such as women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, or those who might be experiencing factors that can lead to homelessness such as ageism, ableism, family violence, and racism.

Grant funding may NOT be applied to your organisation’s general business operating costs, your staff costs, asset purchases, travel, rent/hire of facilities under the control of your organisation or related parties, advertising, decorations, re-usable table settings, fundraising, gifts, or prizes.

The main reason for the activity must not be to fundraise for or promote the applicant organisation.

All successful applicants must acknowledge that they received funding from the Mental Health Foundation Australia’s Small Grants Program Queensland on printed and digital marketing materials for the funded activity. This includes utilising a logo supplied by MHFA.

Application process

Closing date: 5pm 27 June 2023

You will be advised of the outcome of your application before 7 July 2023. Successful applicants will receive a written approval letter and will then be required to enter into a funding agreement with MHFA. After signing the agreement, your organisation will receive a single upfront grant payment. GST is not applicable.

Public announcements of successful applicants and activities will occur after organisations are notified of their success.

Successful applicants must complete their grant-funded activity by 31 October 2023, and then send a written report to MHFA by COB 7 November 2023 itemising the final expenditure and describing the outcomes of the activity.

If your activity is postponed or cancelled, you must advise MHFA immediately, and we can discuss the best course of action. Where any amount of the grant remains unexpended or unacquitted after the grant-funded activity deadline, you may be required to repay that amount.
